Knox's Musical Journey from TikTok to Center Stage

If you've been on TikTok lately, you've probably heard the catchy tunes of Knox, a rising singer from Ohio signed to Atlantic Records under Warner Music Group in 2022.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Knox is a talented singer-songwriter rapidly making a name for himself in the music industry. In just the last year and a half, he signed with Atlantic Records and gained a strong following on TikTok.

One of his videos featuring the popular track "Sneakers" hit nearly 2 million views just overnight. Now, "Sneakers" has accumulated over 23 million streams across different platforms.

His record label is really backing him, especially after his hit "Not The 1975" and two EPs in 2023, which together have gained him a million monthly Spotify listeners.

In February 2023, the musician released his debut EP “How To Lose A Girl in 7 Songs.” Knox is undoubtedly committed to his craft, as he released his sophomore EP, “I’m So Good at Being Alone” last month.

Carrying an impressive roster of supporting multiple artists on tour, Knox has also opened for musicians such as The Band Camino, Boys Like Girls, and Bilmuri.

I had a chat with the rising Nashville-based artist this past summer, a few weeks prior to rocking the stage supporting pop-alternative band, Nightly, on their "Wear Your Heart Out" tour. We talked about his musical inspirations, touring experiences, fans, and his songwriting processes.

In our conversation, he emphasized his gratitude for his fans and the opportunity to create music in his favorite city. " I want to meet everybody. I want to stay after the shows and take pictures with everybody. I wanna hug these people and tell them thank you." Knox shares. This genuine passion for his craft and authenticity resonates throughout the interview.

Knox's magnetic charm and genuine gratitude infused an extra layer of magic into the performance, leaving an enduring imprint on everyone in the audience.

To cap off the night, he made a memorable return to the stage, joining forces with Nightly to deliver a stunning rendition of their duet, "Miss When You Missed Me." This track, freshly released on Knox's "I'm So Good at Being Alone" EP, added a perfect touch to an already unforgettable evening. Many fans knew all the lyrics to Knox's set, clearly showing their excitement for the opening act. His happiness and energy was truly contagious on stage.

During our chat, Knox reminisced about a time when he had only done one headline show. Now, things have taken off big time. After successfully dropping his second EP and joining Nightly on tour, Knox shocked everyone by not just announcing but quickly selling out almost every gig on his very first headline tour called the "I'm So Good at Being Alone" Tour. It's been a wild ride for him, and fans and industry folks are buzzing about what's next.

Influenced by beloved musicians and songwriters like Ed Sheeran, Julia Michaels, and Lauv, Knox's musical upbringing also encompasses a blend of the pop-punk-rock "scene" inspirations. This eclectic musical mix also featured iconic bands such as Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, and All-American Rejects.

Witnessing him on stage left no room for doubt – Knox is a natural performer. He delivered a mesmerizing show, commanding the stage with an undeniable presence and forging a deep connection with fans from start to finish. What elevated the entire experience was Knox's authentic appreciation for touring with Nightly, adding an extra layer of sincerity to the performance and creating an indelible, unforgettable moment for the audience.

Throughout his entire set, Knox not only showcased a formidable stage presence but also engaged in genuine interactions with fans, solidifying his position as a true standout in the world of live performances.

“I waited in line for 4 hours today!” Noted Leslie Ferreira, a Knox fan and college student based in NYC. “Last year, I travelled to see Knox open up for Bilmuri in Columbus in Ohio so I could see him at a hometown show. I’ve been a fan for a few years, and it’s been so crazy to see him grow so big. His music means the world to me. I even have a tattoo for him!” As she pointed out her handwritten “Monumental Mess” tattoo, paying homage to a lyric from the musician’s track “NYC”.
